MOHALI: A 29-year-old married woman invited a real estate agent to a flat in Sunny Enclave, tore off her clothes and cried rape —- a charge that left the 34-year-old with bruises and poorer by Rs 3.16 lakh.
Jasmeet Kaur alias Sana Mehndi, her husband Shadab and another accomplice ensnared Sector 47 resident Suraj Rathore in their trap on Friday. The bait was a property deal. Sana claimed to be a potential flat buyer for her friend. She called Suraj over phone, asking him to reach a flat of her acquaintance to discuss business. When Suraj reached, Sana told him that her friend would arrive soon. Suraj, in the FIR, alleged Sana pounced on him and ripped her clothes apart. “She then started shouting for help. Within a few seconds, her husband and a friend barged in. They punched and kicked Suraj, accusing him of trying to rape her. They asked him to sign a cheque of Rs 3 lakh. Suraj was held hostage in the flat while one of the accused withdrew the cash from the bank,” the FIR stated. His nightmare was not over, yet.
The accused thrashed Suraj again and demanded his ATM pin code. They withdrew Rs 10,000 and took Rs 6,000 from his purse. The three threatened him they would implicate him in a false rape case and publish his objectionable pictures if he informed the police. However, on Saturday, the police arrested Sana and her husband. The two stayed in Sector 38 (West). Sana, a graduate, hailed from Shastri Nagar in Jammu.
A case under section 384 (punishment for extortion), 388 (extortion by threat of accusation of an offence punishable with death or imprisonment for life), 389 (putting person in fear of accusation of offence in order to commit extortion), 420 (cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property), 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation) and 120B (punishment of criminal conspiracy) of IPC was registered.
